Offices and Awards

Wallace Lee Alward, professor and vice chair of pphthalmology and visual sciences, will serve as chair of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) in 2012.

P. Barry Butler, executive vice president and provost at the University of Iowa, has been appointed to the board of The Wind Alliance, a nonprofit organization consisting of representatives from the energy industry, academia, and the federal government.

Chuck Connerly, director of the UI School of Urban and Regional Planning, was installed as president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.

Bob McMurray, associate professor of psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the 2012 American Psychological Association (APA) Award for Distinguished Early Career Scientific Contribution to Psychology and the APA’s 2012 Boyd McCandless Award.

Kathleen Sluka, professor of physical therapy and rehabilitation science, has been awarded the 2012 Frederick W.L. Kerr Basic Science Research Award by the American Pain Society.

Keith Mueller, professor of health management and policy in the College of Public Health, gave two presentations:

  • “The Future of Rural Health: Implications for Public Policy” to U.S. Senate Rural Health Caucus staff, Nov. 30, 2011.
  • “Will Health Care be More Affordable in 2014?” to Leadership Iowa on Dec. 9, 2011.

Christopher Squier, professor of oral pathology, radiology, and medicine, gave a presentation on tobacco control in Iowa Feb. 16 to the Iowa Legislature’s Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee.
