UICCU gift to College of Public Health honors Borg, Colloton

A gift from the University of Iowa Community Credit Union (UICCU) will support the John W. Colloton Chair in Health Management and Policy in the UI College of Public Health and honor UICCU board member Dean Borg, who has served for 30 years in leadership of the member-owned financial cooperative. Borg was chairman of the UICCU board between 1984 and 2008.

UICCU president and CEO Jeffrey Disterhoft said the $3,000 donation underscores Borg’s remarkable dedication to the University of Iowa and honors his personal and professional association with John Colloton, director emeritus of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Colloton Chair was established in 1999 with $2 million in endowment funds contributed by colleagues and friends of Colloton.

Borg, who directed the office of public information in UI Hospitals and Clinics from 1973 to 2000, is senior producer/correspondent for Iowa Public Radio and a frequent contributor to National Public Radio. In addition, he has been the host of Iowa Press and other public affairs programming on Iowa Public Television for more than 40 years.

Colloton said the gift represents a continuation of the outstanding leadership for which both the UICCU and Borg are widely known throughout the community and the state of Iowa.

The donation will become a component of the College of Public Health’s ongoing $15 million campaign, Building Today for a Healthy Tomorrow, which is focused on financing a new building that will be the college’s first academic home, as well as providing funds for student and faculty support and other programmatic development.
