Blogs to provide inside view of Writers’ Workshop fest

Most of the events during the 75th-anniversary reunion of the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop are not open to the public, but lovers of literature everywhere can get an inside view of the discussions through alumni who plan to blog from the event June 9–12.

Alumni bloggers will write on reunion discussions, share memories of Iowa City, and discuss other topics related to the workshop. Their reporting will be featured on a wide range of sites, including AppalachiaToday; Poetry & Popular Culture; Grave Dancer; sharpsand.net; Live Journal at sff.net; mslabrat.com; the Huffington Post; Martha Stewart’s Wholeliving.com; GreenerPenny.com, the Honolulu Weekly, jfsidel.blogspot.com; the Paris Review; asaltyblog; and wewantedtobewriters.com.

The reunion panels on June 10 and 11, open only to alumni and former faculty registered for the reunion, will feature an illustrious lineup of writers including Pulitzer Prize–winners Paul Harding, Jane Smiley, and others. The panelists will reflect not only on their experiences in the Writers’ Workshop and the program’s role in American literature, but also on topics about the literary life, trends in literature, and technical and practical aspects of writing.

The Writers’ Workshop is a unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Graduate College. For information about the free public events, visit news-releases.uiowa.edu/2011/may/052711reunion_events.html.
