Nowak honored for distinguished service in pediatric dentistry

Arthur Nowak, professor emeritus of pediatric dentistry at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry, has received the inaugural Distinguished Service Award from the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).

Nowak received the award in honor of his years of dedicated service to the College of Diplomates and the ABPD. He served on the board of directors from 1984-1990 and was president of the board in 1991. He has been executive director of the ABPD since 2002.

Nowak retired from the UI in 2000 after nearly 30 years as a faculty member. Throughout his career, he emphasized the importance of dental care for infants and young children as part of a comprehensive health care program. He also focused on caring for patients with special needs, such as people with disabilities and others who may lack access to dental treatment.
