University of Iowa Recreational Services will host a Learn to Row Clinic from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Beckwith Boathouse.
Registration fee is $75; the deadline to register is Wednesday, Aug. 3. To register, visit the Field House or the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Learn to Row Clinics are designed for adults and high school students who have never rowed before and are enthusiastic to try a new activity. Minors (under age 18) need a parent or guardian present to sign a waiver. Participants learn rowing technique, boat handling, rowing vocabulary, safety, and teamwork. Indoor rowing machines (ergs), a state-of-the-art rowing tank, and racing shells are used.
Participants should bring an extra t-shirt and pair of shorts for the swimming evaluation, which will be done at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center pool during the last half-hour on Saturday (transportation not provided). Non-swimmers should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org before the clinic begins.
