UI recognizes facilities staff for assisting Iowa Braille School

University of Iowa Facilities Management staff were recognized recently for emergency response work after a tornado damaged the Iowa Braille School in Vinton last month.

Dan Heater, Building and Landscape Services director, presented Certificates of Appreciation signed by President Sally Mason and Senior Vice President and Treasurer Doug True to team members Aug. 5.

Using specialized equipment, teams set up emergency power, pumped water, and cleared debris from damaged facilities and more than 100 downed trees July 11–15. Kevin Kacina, supervisor of Plant Services at the Iowa Braille School, called the speed, efficiency, and skill of the UI staff impressive and invaluable.

Utilities Distribution certificate recipients were Chris Ward, Wayne Parrott, Brent Parizek, Barry Lockridge, Dean Kasper, Rick Hellwig, Chris Roberts, Don Welsh, Lindsey Simpson, Matt Heffernan, Brent Kottemann, and Gary Walker.

Landscape Services recipients were Joel Bishop, Dave Stange, Matt Berg, Joyce Hamilton, John Lloyd, Jose Ramirez, Scott Gritsch, Marty Jiras, Jessica Creeden, Brian Hester, Mike Rhinehart, Mike Houseal, Terry Brack, Andy Dahl, Dayton Ruby, Chris Fry, Bill Graesser, Paul Davis, Jerry Hartzler, Dan Martinson, Marc Knottnerus, and Tom Moore.

Staff from Planning, Design and Construction, Safety, and Environmental Services, and UI Police, also provided on-site support.
