Convocation celebration set for Aug. 21 on Pentacrest

The University of Iowa will hold a convocation celebration on the Pentacrest during Welcome Week. The convocation will begin at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, on the west side of the Pentacrest with the ringing of the bell on the Old Capitol.

The convocation will convey to students the importance of becoming a Hawkeye by describing the IOWA Challenge, a mission statement for UI students that stresses important principles for succeeding in the classroom and beyond.

The convocation will end with the Iowa Fight Song and a procession to the president’s residence for a block party offering free food and entertainment by DJ Zato.

Convocation is part of On Iowa!, a multiday program that will welcome new students to the University campus this fall. Visit for more information about the On Iowa! program.
