University of Iowa Recreational Services will offer American Red Cross swim lessons for children of all ages starting the week of Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). Each class is taught by a certified water safety instructor and includes fun activities and lessons to help the participant learn how to swim and how to be safe in and around the water.
There are three tiers of classes by age with separate levels within each one. Parent Tots, for ages 6 months to 3 years, teaches supported movement and basic water skills.
Swim Tots, for ages 3 to 5 years, focuses on the fundamentals of swimming including water independence, coordinated arm and leg movements, and proper body position. Learn to Swim, for ages 5 to 16 years, helps participants progress from beginner to advanced swimming skills.
Classes are six weeks long. Registration for the lessons can be done at the CRWC or by phone at 319-335-9293.
