Volleyball team opens season with Hawkeye Challenge

The University of Iowa volleyball team will open its 2011 season by hosting the Hawkeye Challenge Friday–Saturday, Aug. 26–27, in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Hawkeyes will open play against Central Michigan University at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26. Iowa will play St. Louis University at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, and conclude the tournament against Marquette University at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27.

Tickets are $3 for each match (free for youth and UI students with valid UI ID). Season tickets also are available for $20 ($16 for UI faculty and staff); with the purchase of one season ticket, a second season ticket is given free of charge. Youth and UI students with valid UI ID can attend volleyball matches for free.

The 2011 season marks head coach Sharon Dingman’s fourth year at the helm of the Iowa volleyball program. During this time, the Hawkeyes have experienced eight of the school’s top 10 all-time attendance records and established season attendance records in 2008 and 2009. This season, Hawkeye volleyball fans will be the first to enjoy the amenities provided by the $47 million renovation to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
