Dan Berkowitz was named interim director of the University of Iowa Press, effective Aug. 1, by Graduate College Dean John Keller.
Berkowitz, associate dean of the Graduate College and professor of journalism and mass communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will serve this role for the fall semester. Holly Carver, director of the UI Press since 1999, announced her retirement in July, but is remaining as an unpaid consultant through the end of the calendar year to complete several current projects.
Keller intends to have a permanent director in place by the start of the spring semester.
Berkowitz will oversee authors and series editors on manuscript preparation and content; the design, production, and marketing of each title; and the investigation of new areas of publication.
Established in 1969, the UI Press publishes scholarly books, poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction. As the only university press in the state, the UI Press is dedicated to preserving the literature, history, culture, wildlife, and natural areas of the Midwest.
