A free, outdoor celebration featuring Hubbard Street Dance Chicago will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4, on the Hancher Green—located just outside the auditorium on the University of Iowa campus.
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is a world-renowned company and audience favorite. The performance will include a variety of works performed by the company and a piece danced by Hubbard Street 2, as well as a few surprises.
Earlier that evening at 5 p.m., Taryn Russell, director of Hubbard Street 2, will lead a free movement workshop on the Hancher Green. Everyone is invited to participate.
Hancher Auditorium hosted performances by world-class artists, provided a space for a variety of campus and community events, and was the site of many UI student performances from its opening in 1972 until it was closed by flooding in 2008. Since the flood, the organization has continued to present artists in alternate venues. The new Hancher facility, which will be built on higher ground just north of the current location, has an estimated opening date of December 2015.
