Columnist Freedman to speak on faith in journalism Oct. 10

New York Times “On Religion” columnist Samuel G. Freedman, professor at Columbia University and an award-winning author, will present a free, public lecture, “Having More Faith in Journalism,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, in Room 140 of Schaeffer Hall on the University of Iowa campus.

The 2011 E.P. Adler Lecture is sponsored by the UI Department of Religious Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in partnership with Hillel and Agudas Achim Congregation.

Freedman has written six acclaimed books, including Who She Was: My Search for My Mother’s Life and Letters to a Young Journalist. His seventh book will be The Big Game: Football and Freedom in the Civil Rights South.

Freedman teaches book-writing at Columbia, and in 1997 was named the nation’s outstanding journalism educator by the Society of Professional Journalists.
