Concert, Symphony Bands to feature alumni conductors

The University of Iowa Symphony Band and Concert Band will share a free performance, featuring alumni guest conductors Ray E. Cramer and Ernest Jennings, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the Iowa Memorial Union second-floor ballroom.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Hawkeye Marching Band Director Kevin Kastens, will open the concert with “The Sinfonians” by Clifton Williams; Fantasy on “Sakura Sakura,” set by Ray E. Cramer, featuring Cramer as guest conductor; “Festal Scenes” by Yasuhide Ito, led by graduate student conductor Ernest Jennings; and “Footsteps” by Dana Wilson.

The Symphony Band, directed by Mark Heidel, will perform “Moving Parts” by David Sampson; “Rest” by Frank Ticheli, dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001; “Martyrs of the Faith” by David DeBoor, conducted by Cramer, and featuring faculty saxophonist Kenneth Tse; and the “Peterloo” Overture by Malcolm Arnold.
