UPDATE: The ECO Hawk waste sort has been postponed due to expected high winds. The sort will be rescheduled at a later time.
ECO Hawk is hosting a fall waste sort from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, near the basketball courts behind Burge Residence Hall on the University of Iowa campus.
Waste sorts, or audits, will help to measure the effectiveness of the efforts to reduce waste, recycle and reuse, and to identify additional sustainability-related opportunities. Students will sort a sampling from the waste gathered from the floors of Burge and Daum Residence Halls.
Volunteers are needed to help sort waste and repurpose recyclable items. Protective gear and safety instructions will be provided. To sign up for a volunteer shift, or for additional information and questions, email Bailee McClellan at email@example.com.
If inclement weather is an issue, the sort will be held Monday, Oct. 17.
In addition, students are invited to the Sustainability Rally, which will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, in the McCord Club Level of the Kinnick Stadium Press Box.
The rally, sponsored by UI Engineers for a Sustainable World and the UI Office of the President, will feature brief highlights of student work toward sustainability. University staff that are contributing to campus sustainability efforts will be featured, and faculty who teach sustainability and lead sustainability research will be showcased.
Interested participants should RSVP at www.rsvpmenow.com/?id=22921.
