Illustrating a desire to create

On Oct. 5–8, the University of Iowa hosted a comics symposium, “Comics, Creativity, and Culture: International and Interdisciplinary Perspectives.” One of the events featured a hands-on workshop led by Phoebe Gloeckner, an American cartoonist, illustrator, painter, and novelist who teaches at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. She is perhaps best known for her 2002 illustrated novel, The Diary of a Teenage Girl.
