The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present AnDa Union—a group known for playing traditional Mongolian folk music, combining styles passed down for generations in Inner and Outer Mongolia—at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City.
Tickets are $35/30 ($31.50/10 for college students; $31.50/27 for senior citizens; and $17.50/15 for youth) and are available at the Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp. Tickets can be purchased over the phone (319-335-1160 or 800-426-2437) or in person from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays, or online at www.hancher.uiowa.edu. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the Englert Theatre.
AnDa Union is one of few organized musical groups from Inner Mongolia. Its members describe themselves as music gatherers, reviving traditions and instrumentation forgotten because of the country’s strained history. They are dedicated to keep the legacy of their culture, language, and musical traditions alive through their performances—eager to educate young Mongols about their nation’s strong cultural roots.
