World cinema series to screen at the Bijou beginning Oct. 29

The Global Lens 2011 film series—a showcase of 10 critically acclaimed narrative feature films from Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Argentina, Kyrgyzstan, India, Georgia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Iran—will screen at the Bijou Cinema Oct. 29 through Nov. 10.

Selections in this year’s series include: Belvedere, Opera Jaw, The Light Thief, Soul of Sand, The Tenants, The White Meadows, Street Days, The Invisible Eye, A Useful Life, and Doorman River.

Global Lens is an annual, touring film series from Global Film Initiative, a not-for-profit organization specializing in the support of independent films from Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The series premieres at the Museum of Modern Art in January, then is presented in more than 25 cities across the United States and Canada throughout the year.

Tickets for all screenings are $7 for the general public, and free for UI students.
