All veteran service providers in Iowa, including University of Iowa faculty and staff, are invited to participate in the first UI Statewide Veterans Conference. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Levitt Center for University Advancement (LCUA) in Iowa City. A reception will follow from 3:30 to 5 p.m., also at the LCUA.
Though free, registration is required by Wednesday, Oct. 27, and can be done online at survey.uiowa.edu/wsb.dll/933/2010vetsconf.htm. Organizers hope for at least 100 participants.
The UI Office of the Provost, UI Office of the Registrar, UI Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and the UI Student Veterans Association are hosting the conference, which will address issues facing veterans returning to Iowa and the vital support systems and resources necessary to ease their reintegration back to Iowa.
The event will open with remarks by UI dignitaries and a panel presentation titled “Paying It Forward: Honoring and Supporting Our Veterans.” U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack has been invited to give the keynote address.
