Nosikova students take top prizes at Liszt festival

Casey Rafn and Ryan McNamara, undergraduate students of Ksenia Nosikova in the University of Iowa School of Music, won the two top Young Artist prizes at the prestigious 2011 Liszt Garrison Festival and International Piano Competition in Baltimore.

Rafn, of Two Harbors, Minn., took first prize overall and “Best Performance of a Work by Franz Liszt.” Rafn has been invited to return to Baltimore in May 2012 for a recital at the Birmingham Concert series and a professional recording session.

McNamara, of Maple Plain, Minn., won second prize overall and “Best Performance of an American Work.”

The Liszt Garrison Festival and International Piano Competition is a five-day celebration of music featuring performances, lectures, and master classes, held annually at Notre Dame of Maryland University. This year’s festival took place Oct. 12-16.
