UI plans TransWeek activities Nov. 6-13

The community will have the opportunity to learn more about transgender issues during the third annual University of Iowa TransWeek, Nov. 6–13.

The UI student and community-based group TransCollaborations is organizing the week of education and outreach events with support from the UI LGBT Resource Center and the UI Chief Diversity Office.

Activities include film screenings, poetry readings, lectures, dances, workshops, collaborative art projects, and discussions. These activities will explore and deconstruct gender from multiple and intersecting racial, class, ethnic, and spiritual perspectives. Highlights include “Intersections of Boxes and Bodies: A Dialogue Between Health Care Providers and Trans-identified Individuals” from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, in Room 2520D of University Capitol Centre, and a film screening and discussion on She’s a Boy I Knew from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, in Iowa City Public Library Meeting Room A.

All events are free and open to the public. Visit imu.uiowa.edu/lgbt-events for a complete schedule of events and list of sponsors.
