The University of Iowa Mock Trial (UIMT) program’s four teams took first place for the second weekend in a row after competing at tournaments in St. Paul, Minn., and Los Angeles Nov. 4-6.
Team 1424, captained by senior Chris Elsenbast, took first place at the Macalester College Invitational with a record of 8-0. Elsenbast also received an Outstanding Attorney award.
Team 1425, captained by senior Kelly Grogg and sophomore Edward Rodriguez, placed third with a record of 7-1. Senior Stefani Ganzer received an Outstanding Witness Award.
Junior Alyssa Carlson from team 1426 received an Outstanding Attorney Award and Sophomore Rachel Ascoli received an Outstanding Witness Award.
Team 613, captained by seniors Melissa Osman and Will Mattessich, traveled to UCLA for one of the most competitive tournaments of the year. The tournament only invites elite teams to compete and is structured with a challenge format for each round where teams can chose who they compete against. Team 613 was challenged by and competed against Miami of Ohio, Irvine, UCLA, and Rhodes—all of which are currently ranked among the top 12 teams in the country.
