The University of Iowa enrolled a record number of international students this year, including more than 800 students who are new to Iowa City and the United States.
Many of these students will remain in the area over the Thanksgiving break. Friends of International Students (FIS), a community organization that provides community, hospitality, and friendship to UI international students, is seeking local families who are willing to open their homes to a student or students for Thanksgiving dinner, a truly American experience that many international students would not otherwise experience.
Those who would like to share their Thanksgiving celebration with a student from another country can contact Maria Ortega Kummer, a member of the FIS board, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-354-5898. She will need your name, contact information, how many students you can host, and whether you can provide transportation to the students since most do not have cars.
