University and Concert Bands to present joint concert Dec. 8

The University and Concert Bands of the University of Iowa School of Music will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.

Conductor Curran Prendergast and guest conductor Richard Chapman will lead the University Band in performances of “Amparito Roca” by Jaime Texidor, “Irish Tune from County Deery” by Percy Aldridge Grainger, “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “I Am” by Andrew Boysen, and “Undertow,” a recent composition by John Mackey.

The Concert Band is conducted by Kevin Kastens, director of the Hawkeye Marching Band, and he will be joined by guest conductors Richard Chapman and Marc Decker.

The Concert Band will perform “Carnival” by Paul Basler, “Incantation and Dances” by John Barnes Chance, “No Shadow of Turning” by David Gillingham, and Armenian Dances by Alfred Reed.
